It's better not because of its modern combat or shiny graphics but story-wise and because of the themes it explores like synthesis and forbidden AI technology (hello, ME endings), leaving past life and going for the unknown and how there is nothing heroic in that, the importance of cooperation and building a community, its unusual setting and a starting point of trying to find a new how and failing, the Kett who are really interesting and obsessed with perfection for some yet unknown reason, mysterious Jardaan race, Jien Garson, Benefactor, Ryders' mom.īW dropped lots of generalization of species and made them individuals, especially krogans got a super-nice remake. I don't agree that a series that's not even out yet won't "hold up" to Jackson's LOTR. I also like the Hobbit more than LOTR, but its tragic ending means I've only watched it once. I'm just a massive Mass Effect fan, so I love it all. I think the story is wonderful, and I'm not sure what you mean by not having the "soul" of the original trilogy. I've enjoyed Andromeda as much as the trilogy, and I've probably played Andromeda more (I like the CC more and my romance options more). And if Andromeda 2 was coming out in a few months then I'd buy it in an instant. The Amazon LOTR series coming out this year won't hold up next to the original either, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see it! I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy, I played them when they originally came out when I was a teenager.
